The Power of Group Training Classes

Bernie, the Golden Retriever and Daphne, the Boxer work on their manners during Wonderdog Manners.

Group dog training offers meaningful benefits at every stage of your dog’s life.

Whether your dog’s skills seem to fall apart outside the home, you’re navigating life with a newly adopted dog, or your puppy is turning out to be more work than you expected, you’re not alone. These challenges are incredibly common. A well-designed group class provides structure, guidance, and support—helping both dogs and their humans build skills that translate to everyday life.

Overall benefits of group dog training classes:

Small Group Sizes With Individualized Attention

You shouldn’t feel like just another enrollment number. You and your dog deserve thoughtful guidance, real-time coaching, and personalized feedback as you learn together. That’s why my group dog training classes are intentionally kept small—so each dog and handler can receive the attention they need to succeed.

Led by a Certified Professional Dog Trainer

If you’re feeling unsure about where to begin because of the overwhelming amount of (often conflicting) training advice online, you’re not alone. Many dog owners feel stuck trying to sort through it all.

Dog training is an unregulated industry, and not all advice is evidence-based. In my classes, you can feel confident knowing the guidance you receive is rooted in current behavioral science—not outdated or punitive methods.

Positive Reinforcement, Force-Free Training

You should feel comfortable and confident in the training methods you’re using with your dog.

As with all of my services, group classes use positive reinforcement training that is both dog-friendly and people-friendly. Force-free methods help dogs learn without fear or intimidation, building skills that are reliable, resilient, and appropriate for real life.

Benefits of group training for puppies:

I won’t sugarcoat it—bringing home a puppy can feel overwhelming. You want to give your puppy the best possible start, but it’s not always clear where to begin or what truly matters most.

Wonderpuppy Pre-K is a group puppy training class designed specifically for puppies 8–16 weeks of age, with a focus on healthy emotional and behavioral development during this critical learning period.

Expertly Guided Puppy Socialization

Maybe you’ve heard that your puppy needs to meet “100 people in 100 days,” and now you’re feeling stressed just thinking about it. You’re not wrong—done poorly, that approach can be overwhelming for both puppies and humans.

Puppy socialization is about quality over quantity. In Wonderpuppy Pre-K, socialization is carefully guided to help puppies build confidence while reducing the risk of fear, anxiety, and stress as they grow.

Support for Common Puppy Behavior Challenges

If your puppy’s antics have you wondering whether you’re doing something wrong, take a breath—you’re not alone.

Group puppy training classes include discussion and guidance on common puppy challenges like potty training, mouthing and biting, and inappropriate chewing. Understanding why these behaviors happen and how to manage them humanely helps set realistic expectations and reduces frustration.

Supervised Puppy Play

Puppy play can bring up a lot of questions. Why are they growling? Is all that jumping okay? And… did that puppy just hump another one?

In class, puppies participate in supervised play sessions that emphasize safety, consent, and appropriate play styles. This allows puppies to develop healthy dog-dog social skills while giving you peace of mind and clarity about what’s normal—and when support is needed.

Age-Appropriate Foundation Training

Take a deep breath—you have your puppy’s entire life ahead of you to teach “sit,” “down,” and “roll over.” Wonderpuppy Pre-K focuses less on formal obedience and more on foundational skills like engagement, calm behavior, and early cues that support lifelong learning and a well-mannered adult dog.

Benefits of group training for adult dogs:

Has your once-adorable puppy grown into an adolescent who jumps on guests or pulls toward every dog they see on walks? Behaviors that felt manageable early on often become more challenging as dogs grow—and that’s incredibly common.

From adolescents to adults, dogs of all ages benefit from learning in a structured group environment. Wonderdog Manners is designed for dogs 16 weeks and older who need real-life skills in real-world settings.

Practice Skills Around Real-World Distractions

If your dog’s training seems solid at home but unravels the moment you step outside, you’re not failing—your dog just needs practice in more distracting environments. Group classes provide a controlled setting to work around other dogs and people, helping skills transfer into daily life.

Teaches Dogs What To Do

It’s frustrating when dogs jump on guests or pull on walks—but they aren’t being “bad.” They simply haven’t learned better options yet.

Rather than focusing on what dogs shouldn’t do, group classes emphasize teaching appropriate alternatives, such as sitting to greet people or walking politely on leash. This proactive approach leads to more reliable behavior over time.

Built-In Accountability and Structure

Life gets busy, and even the most motivated owners can struggle to stay consistent. Weekly group classes provide structure, routine, and accountability—making it easier to keep training from falling to the bottom of the to-do list.

Training Support Between Classes

You’re not expected to remember everything on your own. Handouts and resources are provided to support continued practice between sessions, helping you feel confident and supported throughout the process.

“We took the Wonderdog Manners class at Summit and I cannot say enough good things about it. My dog Harper had so much fun going to class. Eryn uses only positive reinforcement methods and clicker training. Harper had some prior training, but Eryn really helped us progress her training significantly and we are continuing to polish her good manners! The homework given is easy to follow and great to refer back to after the class is over. It is hands down the best training class we’ve ever gone to! I hope she will add a second level to the class someday! It is so helpful to get her feedback during the training exercises.”
