“I’m so grateful to have found a trainer who is truly nonjudgmental and meets both me and Freya where we are. This will be a long journey, but it feels like we’re a team—and I’m already seeing progress. Eryn notices subtle cues you might miss when you’re focused on the behavior itself. If you’re searching for support like I was, you won’t regret reaching out for help.”

All fearful, reactive, and aggressive dog cases begin with a 90-minute Wonderdog Behavior Consultation. This initial appointment allows us to fully understand your dog’s history, triggers, and behavior challenges. After your Consultation, I’ll recommend a personalized package of behavior modification lessons designed to address your dog’s specific needs and goals.

Traditional dog obedience training focuses on teaching foundational skills such as sit, down, stay, come, and loose leash walking. Dog behavior modification, on the other hand, addresses the underlying emotional drivers behind behaviors like leash reactivity or aggression towards strangers. While I may incorporate foundational skills when needed, the primary goal of behavior modification is to change your dog’s emotional response to triggers while equipping you with the tools to safely and effectively manage behavior in real-life situations.
-
It depends. Behavior modification for reactive, fearful, or aggressive dogs is not a quick fix. Because these behaviors are rooted in emotion, meaningful change takes time, consistency, and patience. I cannot ethically guarantee that your dog’s behavior will be “fixed” after one package of lessons — and you should be wary of anyone who does. Instead, we focus on steady progress that improves your dog’s overall welfare and quality of life.

Management refers to arranging your dog’s environment to prevent them from practicing unwanted behaviors while we work on behavior modification. For example, if your reactive dog barks at people through the window, applying privacy film can reduce visual triggers. If you have a dog who nips at children, a management strategy may include using gates, crates, or separate spaces during visits. Management is a critical tool that keeps everyone safe and reduces stress while training is underway.
-
Decades of research show that reward-based, force-free training is the safest and most effective approach to behavior modification for reactive, fearful, and aggressive dogs. This approach reduces the risk of unwanted behavioral side effects, physical harm, and damage to the relationship between dogs and their families. Leading veterinary organizations such as the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior support positive reinforcement–based training as best practice.

Yes. I work closely with local veterinarians and veterinary behaviorists to support shared cases involving reactive, fearful, and aggressive dogs. Collaboration ensures your dog receives comprehensive, science-based care.
-
I love working with clients in person whenever possible. However, if your dog displays intense fear, reactivity, or aggression toward strangers, virtual behavior modification lessons are the safest and most effective starting point. In many cases, we can transition to in-person lessons as progress is made.
-
No. It is not humane to intentionally trigger reactive or aggressive dog behavior for demonstration purposes. As an ethical trainer, my role is to reduce stress — not provoke it. Video can occasionally be helpful, but you will never be asked to intentionally put your dog into a situation where they are likely to react fearfully or aggressively.
