October 25, 2025
We are pleased to announce that Eryn Rolison has successfully graduated from our six-day, 45-hour Canine Behavior Modification Academy. This is a rigorous, science-based course that requires extensive reading, study, testing, and hands-on work with dogs loaned to Peaceable Paws by area animal shelters and rescue groups (Frederick County Animal Control, Lab Rescue LRCP, and Hedgesville Hounds).
The course is taught by internationally acclaimed Pat Miller, certified dog trainer and behavior consultant, past training editor for The Whole Dog Journal, and author of nine books on dog training, including the best-selling Power of Positive Dog Training and most recently (2024), Veterinary Cooperative Care. In Spring of 2015, Miller was named by Dog Fancy Magazine as one of 45 people who have changed the dog world and was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Association of Professional Dog Trainers at their annual conference in the Fall of 2018. Miller is currently Vice-President of the Animal Positive Coalition, and a member of the APDT Ethics Committee. Peaceable Paws is located on a pastoral 80-acre farm in Fairplay, Maryland.
Students are required to pass a comprehensive written final exam to test their knowledge in the area of dog behavior modification, as well as a practical final which consists of an oral presentation of their work with their academy dog for the week. More than 500 trainers in the US and from other countries including Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Japan, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates have completed this highly acclaimed course.
Behavior Modification Academy graduates are invited to further their professional education by taking additional advanced courses at Peaceable Paws, including Advanced Training and Behavior Study, Canine Aggression, Canine Cognition, Dog Training Instructor and Multi-Species Behavior and Training. Students who successfully complete at least three academies become Pat Miller Certified Trainers (PMCT), and for additional courses they can attain PMCT2, PMCT3 and PMCT4.
